A CHRISTIAN TEACHING ON PRAYER

TO GET THIS TEXT ON VIDEO

Prayer is communicating to God or listening from God. It is about telling God the desires of our hearts and listening to God to know His will in your life. As Christians we need prayers always Praying in the name of Jesus destroys the works of the devil.

Psalms 24:1: The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.

The earth belongs to God and He knows it better than us. He knows the entire universe better than we do and everything and everyone belong to Him.  The whole world belongs to Him. Therefore He knows us better than we know ourselves. God knows all systems (visible and invisible) in the entire universe better than we do. We therefore need to talk and listen to God.

Matthew 10:30: But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Imagine the earth’s population currently – it is about 8 billion people. God knows the number of hair strands on the head of each and every person. That is the extent of explicit details that God has about each one of us.

Jeremiah 33:3: Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.

Do you want to know many great and mighty things about yourself and other creation? Do you want to understand more from the awesome God we serve? God is telling us to call unto Him and He will answer us. God is waiting on us to call Him. It is our duty to call God and He will answer us.

John 15:7: If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

Are we abiding in Jesus Christ? Is the word of God abiding in us? If we read the word of God and we abide in it, it stays in us. We also abide in Jesus Christ. Therefore, whatever we pray, in line with His will, He will answer us and supply our needs according to His riches in glory.  Philippians 4:19 says: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Matthew 21:22: And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

When praying, believe you have received provided you do it according to the will of God.

Philippians 4:6-7: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

There are many challenges we face in our lives; anxiety can easily take advantage of us. Many diseases that are caused by anxiety can easily enter our bodies and destroy us. Many challenges in life can bring trouble in our lives. God is saying - whatever we are going through, remember to give thanks to God in everything going on in our life. Then, because God is good, He will give us peace, beyond human understanding, to guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Our hearts and minds need to function normally for us to be healthy – this is the will of God in our lives.

Luke 1:37: For with God nothing will be impossible.

Provided we are with God today nothing will be impossible in the future. Pray believing that with God all things are possible. Mountains in your life can flatten and valleys can get filled up into plains, in Jesus name – Just pray and believe it is possible!

1 Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing

God is encouraging us to pray continuously in every situation we are in. We pray to God at all the time and not only when we are in problems or challenges. We should pray even when life is laughter all through.

Luke 22:40b: …Pray that you may not enter into temptation.

Let us pray that we may not fall into temptation. Temptations such as temptations to steal, to kill, to be angry for no reason, to revenge against other people, to commit sexual immorality, etc. can come our way. We can only overcome such evil temptations through prayer, every day.

Ephesians 6:12: For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

We are not fighting against human beings (our spouses, people not wishing us well, colleagues at work, our children or family members, our bosses at work, business partners, etc.) but against principalities of darkness, against the powers of the devil, against the rulers of darkness, against the rulers of Satanism, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Please let us stop fighting any human beings – however bad they may look. All human beings need to be handled with love so that they may experience the love of Christ through us and surrender to Him as their personal Savior – for Christ came for all.

Ephesians 6:18a: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit...

We need to pray in the spirit. If you’re not filled with the Holy Spirit, you need time to desire and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit you will not be able to pray the will of God.

Romans 8:26: Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

We have many weaknesses as human beings. The Holy Spirit guides and helps us on what to pray. He intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be understood. We therefore need to pray in the spirit so that we can pray the will of God. Do you want to pray the will of God? Then:

  1. Have the word of God in your heart – read the word of God every day and meditate on it.

  2. You should be filled with the Holy Spirit so that you can be able to pray the will of God.

Jeremiah 1:10: See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms,
To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.

God has given us authority such that we do not have to be shaken by the devil, the powers of darkness or the enemy because we have the power to root out all the powers of the devil. We have power to destroy the strongholds of the devil and to throw down all the imaginations of the devil. We have the authority to build and to plant, to make things run well and to bring order everywhere, in the name of Jesus Christ. All this is done during prayer.

Zechariah 4:6b: …Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.

We are not doing it out of our strength, nor our might, nor our ability, but through the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 3:20: Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

When we pray, God comes and does more than we pray because He is the Almighty God. God is omnipresent (He is everywhere), omniscient (He is all-knowing) and omnipotent (He is all-powerful). Therefore we are praying to God who is able to help us beyond measure.  I urge you to pray or even start praying to God (if you have not been praying). Do not give up until something happens. Pray day and night, when happy, when in challenges etc., because God is there to fight for you. Intercede for other people too - pray for the sick, hungry, orphaned, widowed, etc. and God will do exceedingly abundantly to them.

Jesus showed us how to pray. He showed us what it means to pray. He was praying every day, sometimes during the day and sometimes in the night. Jesus Christ (God in human body) was a Man of prayer. He would retreat to some lonely places and pray so that He could communicate to God the Father. Therefore, He showed us, as the best role model, how we should behave in our bodies - we must pray every day. Matthew 6:9-13: After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. In the Lord’s Prayer, God gave us the ingredients of and effective prayer.  Our Father who art in heaven - We need to recognize our God who is in heaven.

Thy Kingdom come – He has all the Kingdom - All the Kingdom and power belong to Him. Give us this day our daily bread – He is ready to supply unto our needs. He is able to protect us from temptations. He also wants us to repent our sins and forgive others too. Forgive others so that God can forgive you in return. For thine is the kingdom, and the power – we must recognize His majesty. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
